season 2014 - 2015
The current government has slightly relaxed the draconic measures taken by the former but the situation for the stage artists especially has greatly deteriorated and many respected and admired artists are left looking for a job. Luckily, the artists themselves are energetically making the best under the circumstances.
After functioning as interim Artistic Leader of the Dept. Stage direction at Theatre School (where he graduated himself….)Javier will be starting his last season before the age of retirement (which is at 65,5 in The Netherlands for his generation).
Beginning of august, he will première the dramatic cantata Phaedra in a staged version for one of the graduating students of Dutch National Opera Academy.
In december he will start teaching in Abidjan again at the Ecole Nationale de Théâtre et Danse and in the same period he hopes to be present at the graduation ceremonies of the students at the Ecole Internationale de Théâtre du Bénin.
If all goes well, Javier will at last travel to Conakry in 2015,but he has had to postpone the visit so often that nothing is ever certain…
The new artistic director the the dept. of Stage Direction at the Amsterdam Theatre School has invited Javier back to work on opera with the second year students together with the Master Students of composition and Masters of Theatre Studies.
And finally, he will direct with Dutch National Opera Academy his first Britten Opera: the Rape of Lucrecia, scheduled to premiere in july-august 2015.
